A wooden pattern is a replica of a desired casting, created slightly larger to account for metal shrinkage. Used in sand casting, it creates a cavity, or mold, that is then filled with molten metal. Wooden patterns are a cost-effective and workable option for low-volume or large-scale production, though they are susceptible to warping and wear over time.
